Support for Governor McCrory’s Connect NC Bond Proposal Builds in Eastern North Carolina | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Raleigh, N.C.     Endorsements are pouring in from Eastern North Carolina municipalities in support of Governor Pat McCrory's Connect NC bond proposal. The cities of Greenville and Goldsboro, the towns of Windsor and Jamesville, and Wayne, Martin, Carteret and Halifax counties are the latest municipalities to pass resolutions expressing official support for placing the Governor's bond proposal on the ballot in November.

    "Local leaders in Eastern North Carolina realize that investing now will improve our state's competitiveness and quality of life for future generations," Governor McCrory said. "I applaud their motion to let the voters decide on these important investments."

    The Jamesville resolution highlights the statewide benefits of Connect NC stating, "These strategic investments, as proposed, are designed to benefit every community across this great State and will create jobs and improve the quality of life and environment for every North Carolinian."

    "By not addressing our serious infrastructure deficiencies now, our State will lose its ability to compete in the future," the Goldsboro resolution emphasizes.

    All eight resolutions support adding the bond package to the ballot. "The Halifax County Board of Commissioners support a statewide infrastructure bond initiative and encourage the General Assembly to allow North Carolina's citizens to vote on this critical proposal to ensure North Carolina's future on the global stage," the resolution declares.

    The endorsements of Greenville, Goldsboro, Windsor, Jamesville and Wayne, Martin, Carteret and Halifax counties come on the heels of other Eastern North Carolina resolutions of support from Currituck, Dare, Onslow and Pitt counties, Elizabeth City and Fremont.

    Connect NC is targeted investments in North Carolina's roads, education, public health, parks and military. From small farming towns to large cities, Connect NC projects will benefit every community across the state while creating thousands of jobs along the way.

    The transportation proposal would pay for 27 permit-ready highway projects throughout North Carolina that have completed environmental documents. In addition, Connect NC would fund the paving of 176 unpaved secondary roads totaling 113 miles.

    Because of the state's fiscal strength and strong balance sheet, no tax increase is needed to fund the bonds and the state's AAA bond rating would be preserved.
