Totally Turtles

Eastern North Carolina is loaded with some amazing reptiles. One of the most common types of reptiles seen are our turtles. Meet at the park visitor center to learn about these amazing creatures. There will be some live turtles for viewing and identification during the program.

Flatty Creek Hike

Come out for a short hike down to the water at Flatty Creek where we’ll have an amazing view of the marsh and river. While we’re hiking we’ll discuss some of the ecology of that particular area of the park and how it has changed over time. Meet at the Goose Creek Trail parking lot at the entrance to the campground.

Mallard Creek Hike

Meet at the last parking lot for a one-mile hike down to the dock on Mallard Creek. We’ll be walking through an old loblolly pine plantation until we get close to the creek where you’ll be surrounded by massive pines draped from top to bottom with Spanish moss. While we get a first-hand look at the two stands of trees, we’ll discuss the similarities and differences of a natural stand versus a plantation.
