Hurricane Arthur Update: Closer and closer | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Publisher's note: We have and will do a series of these posts until the storm has passed or I am out of power.

For Immediate Release:

    Just to clear up a few items:

    No alcohol sales county wide from 10:00 pm Thursday to 6 am Friday.

    Shelters are open at North and Southside High Schools and all evacuations are voluntary with the exception of Richlands Township which is mandatory. All individual shelter residents should report to the shelter with a bedroll or sleeping bag, a pillow, a towel, medications and personal care items. Residents with special needs should report to the shelter with a relative or person who is capable of providing for their care. Animals are not allowed in the shelters.

    • Beaufort County Animal Shelter will shelter pets. They are located at 3931 Hwy. 264 E Washington. You can call them at 252-946-4517 if you have questions.

    • There is a voluntary county wide curfew from 10:00 pm Thursday to 6:00 am Friday. Drivers are asked to limit all unnecessary travel.

    • Due to flooding and downed trees some streets may be barricaded. Driving on flooded or barricaded streets could subject the driver to ticketing and fines.

North Carolina's Rate Bureau has requested for 2024 an annual increase of 42.2%, whereby North Carolina's Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has exhibited a great willingness to take a firm stand against such an exorbitant increase.
I reckon one could always argue that ignorance rests in the eyes of the beholder, but, I'm not taking that bet ... not in these Orwellian times, when so few of our fellow travelers know so little of what is real, and far too much of what otherwise might be terminally fake.

This morning’s update from the National Weather Service (NWS) included an elevated threat of severe weather, to include the possibility of tornados, as well as an increase in the forecasted wind conditions.
Our office is continuing to monitor an approaching cold front that is expected to bring high winds, elevated water levels, rain and the potential for severe storms to our area Tuesday and Wednesday. Forecast details for Beaufort County can be found below.
