    The Washington Harbor District is packed with activities on the 4th!

    Once again, Lee Chevrolet is sponsoring a fun-filled day on the waterfront for July 4th celebration culminating with the City of Washington's Firework display.

    "There's going to be lots to do!" states Beth Byrd, Director of the Washington Harbor District Alliance who organizes the day of entertainment in downtown Washington. "This year we have added things for the kids to do and a light show!"

    Starting off the day will be the Best Old Classic Car contest on Stewart Parkway from 9am – 12 noon. Cash prizes will be awarded at Noon with $200.00 going to People's Choice, $100.00 for Contestant's Choice and the car that is voted as the Best Original Restoration will win $100.00. Saturday Market will run both Friday the 4th and the traditional Saturday from 8am until 12 noon. "This will give all visiting friends and family a double helping of the popular Saturday morning past time, when locals have the opportunity to buy fresh produce from the farmer and to support artisans who sell their creations at the west end of Stewart Parkway".

    The 104.5 the Vine Connection in Partnership with Bishop George B. Bloomer, TCT Christian Television Network presents a Freedom Day Gospel Explosion from 9 am till 2 pm. in Festival Park. For more information and to purchase tickets go to Freedom Day Gospel Explosion on Facebook.

    A Cornhole tournament hosted by the East Carolina Cornhole League, Can U Toss will be starting at about 9:00AM with singles registration and will run throughout the day.

    Zaxby's is hosting a fun zone for the kids from 12 noon to 6 pm featuring the Zrider, and the Castle Bounce Obstacle Course and Slide. There will also be games like musical chairs and hula hoop contests, complete with prizes!

    Eleven of the unique shops you can find downtown and 10 eateries will be open on the 4th. Go to the www.WHDA.org website for a complete listing of stores and restaurants and their hours of operation for the day. The Schooner Jeanie B is away working with the boy scout camp but her sister Stella which is a 37' Cutter is available for 90 minute sails at 10:00, 12:00, 2;00 and 4:00. Six people can cruise comfortably. The cost for adults is $15.00 and $10.00 for children under 12. Call for reservations at 252-671-0080

    Back by popular demand to rock the crowd is Spare Change from 6 pm – 9 pm. Spare Change is from eastern NC and got their start in 2002. Traveling throughout the southeast, the band grew into what is today one of the most popular bands around. They perform a high energy show with a diverse selection of music. From Rock, Country, Beach, Funk, Rap and Classic Rock, Spare Change is sure to play a favorite of all those attending the 4th of July show.

    "New and exciting this year is a laser light show!" says Beth Byrd,. "Two songs will be synched with laser lights for a spectacular show in Festival Park. Other lights will be well placed to light up the historic waterfront." Immediately following the light show the fireworks will be presented by the City of Washington. "All in all, it looks like a great day in the Washington Harbor District!"
