Jones Supports Select Committee To Investigate Benghazi

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) released the following statement after Speaker of the House John Boehner announced that the House will vote to create a select committee to investigate the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya:

"When four American citizens are killed in a terrorist attack, the details of that attack should not be shrouded in secrecy by our own president and his administration," said Congressman Jones. "The American people deserve the truth, and unfortunately, the truth is something that President Obama has been unwilling to provide. I stand in full support of the creation of a select committee to fully investigate the events surrounding the tragic Benghazi attack."

Jones Urges Obama To Quickly Grant Disaster Declaration Request

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) urged President Barack Obama to quickly grant North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory's request for a disaster declaration in four Eastern North Carolina counties as a result of the nine tornadoes and severe storms that struck the area on April 25. The storms tragically took the life of an infant child, injured 28 other individuals, and caused an estimated $10 million in damages. The disaster declaration is necessary to allow the North Carolina counties affected by the storms to receive federal funds and resources to expedite the recovery process. The four counties included in Governor McCrory's request are Beaufort, Chowan, Pasquotank, and Perquimans.

"I join with Governor McCrory in urging the president to quickly approve the request for a disaster declaration," said Congressman Jones. "This will allow the people of Eastern North Carolina to access the federal resources they need to begin to put their lives back together after last week's devastating storms."
