Governor McCrory Announces Appointments | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

    Raleigh, NC     The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments today:

    North Carolina Marriage and Family Therapy Licensure Board

   •  Roger Woodard (Cleveland County) - Woodard is the senior pastor at the Family Worship Center. He has served as the pastor of eight different congregations in five states.

   •  Ruby Bullard (Cumberland County) - Bullard is an attorney with her own practice. She is the secretary of the Board of Trustees for Fayetteville Academy.

    The board ensures that the public has a means of protecting itself from unprofessional, improper, unauthorized and unqualified use of certain titles by persons who practice marriage and family therapy. Each term length is four years.

    North Carolina Human Relations Commission

    Norris Aikens (Rockingham County) - Aikens is the co-founder of Living by the Word Ministries. He will serve as chairman of the commission.

   •  Kevin Farrell (Wake County) - Farrell is a contracts manager at the SAS Institute. He serves as the corporate secretary on the Board of Directors for Global Hope India, Inc.

    Luke Farley (Durham County) - Farley is an associate at the law firm Conner Gwyn Schenck PLLC. He is the secretary of the Administration of Justice Committee for the North Carolina Bar Association.

   •  Sterling McDiarmid (Watauga County) - McDiarmid is the president of Sterling McDiarmid Paving Co. Inc. The company is a family-owned business established more than 50 years ago.

    Michael Picarelli (Guilford County) - Picarelli is the marketing manager for Grande Cheese Co. Prior to this he was a sales manager for IFH Foodservice Company.

   •  R. Tony McGhee Sr. (New Hanover County) - McGhee is the founder and pastor of the Wilmington Christian Center. He is an independent representative at the director level of Legal Shield, a legal service provider.

   •  Dana Merck (Forsyth County) - Merck is the CEO of DLM & Associates Consulting Group. Prior to this, he served as director of programs for Share the Vision Inc. in Winston-Salem.

   •  Gilbert Parker (Wake County) - Parker is a pastor in Fuquay Varina. Previously, he served in several management roles in different industries.

   •  Valerie Johnson (Durham County) - Johnson works for the Office of the Governor. Prior to this, she was an operations specialist with Wachovia Mortgage.

    The commission advocates, enforces and promotes equality of opportunity in the areas of housing, employment practices, public accommodations, education, justice and governmental services. Each member serves a four-year term.

    North Carolina Child Care Commission

   •  Dr. Jonathan Brownlee (Cleveland County) - Brownlee is the chairman and medical director of Safe Kids Cleveland County. He previously served as the chairman of the Pediatrics Department at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

   •  John Everhart (Craven County) - Everhart is the owner of Excel Learning Centers which serves Carteret, Craven and Onslow counties. He is also a member of his local Smart Start Board.

   •  Linda Vandevender (Cumberland County) - Vandevender is the director of Trinity Christian Child Care and Elementary School. She also serves on the Cumberland County Partnership for Children Smart Start Board.

   •  Kay Lowrance (Person County) - Lowrance retired from the Division of Child Development and Early Education with more than 35 years of service. She serves as the vice-president of the NC Phi Beta Lambda Professional Division, Inc.

   •  Blake Fricks (Wake County) - Fricks is an attorney with Smith Anderson, concentrating her practice on corporate and intellectual property law.

    Elliott Blades (Wake County) - Blades and his wife run the Primrose School in Holly Springs.

    The commission adopts rules for licensing of childcare facilities and registering childcare homes. It set standards in childcare centers and defines the duties of the abuse/neglect unit. Each term length is two years.

    North Carolina Medical Board

   •  Dr. Barbara Walker (New Hanover County) - Walker is an American Osteopathic Association board-certified family physician. She retired after most recently serving as a physician and teacher at Coastal Family Medicine.

   •  Dr. Debra Bolick (Catawba County) - Bolick is an outpatient psychiatrist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Hickory. She has approximately 20 years of experience in the psychiatry field.

   •  Dr. Timothy Lietz (Mecklenburg County) - Lietz works at Mid-Atlantic Emergency Medical in Charlotte as the medical director of the department of emergency medicine.

    Wayne Holloman (Pitt County) - Holloman is self-employed in real estate, with more than 40 years of entrepreneurial experience.

    The board regulates the practice of medicine and surgery for the benefit and protection of the people of the state. Each member serves a three-year term.
