Looking Fondly on Reagan | Eastern North Carolina Now

I enjoyed listening to Ronald Reagan as much as I did Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama --- all excellent orators and clear points on issues. They all had excellent speech writers. I am equally sure they reviewed carefully their handed-down speech before delivering it.

What concerns me most is the "redaction over time" of what was the really pertinent parts and decisions made in their 8 year term. Obama is still working on year 6-8 with serious thought now to using his Constitutional Right to Executive Orders. Reagan Redaction is the most glaring, in my view.

What alternative do we have with a Congress stuck in the "swamp of partisan politics?" I am amazed his patience has endured so long. Your nerves begin to fray at some point or another. I pat him on the back and ask "why not in year 2?"

The issues needing current address, in my view are:

   •  Still-failed economy

   •  Terribly lop-sided tax laws so favoring the rich that folks like Romney pay only 14% on millions earned

   •  Awful things from ultra-conservatism --- mostly pure lies and distortion --- preventing the kind of respect Reagan got

Time always brings truth to the surface --- this listing attached is accurate to the best of my knowledge

As a small businessman, I see clearly what Reaganomics is = NOTHING from government to help nor mitigate the tax drudgery I face (only good thing has been instant depreciation of any equipment up to $50K per year)---and that assumes enough work in the busted economy to have it.

Now, the IRS is making it almost impossible to hire workers as Independent Contractors = I have to hire another person to keep up with technical paperwork and tax I must deduct and pay on their behalf. An IC gets paid full dollar / I report on 1099 the wages over $500 / they are responsible for paying quarterly estimated tax / audits are individual where, if they are regular workers, I am the one to get audited = however many taxpayers are rolled onto my shoulders for a "group kill shot."

Criteria to be a "government contractor" are so severe few truly small businesses can comply --- preliminary fees are ungodly to even bid I put my business in my wife's name years ago --- but it really does not offset the above. My assumption was that "white female ownership" would be a magic category one notch shy of "black female ownership."

In 2 words: Reaganomics SUCKS!!!! Supply side is a total farce conceived in the Mental Institution called "Chicago School of Finance".

This is a summary only of the mess we are in today thanks to long-endured tyranny from the rich (Republican skewed) tax code and bailouts to banks not yet loaning money --- except if you are so financially fixed as to not need it much. I won't even mention the auto bailout nor ungodly expensive foreign wars we love to fight (er, get whipped over).

God help us ---- the DC and Raleigh politicians don't seem to care about anything but re-election and more nice perks of office than a mule can choke down.

Publisher's note: This post magnificently proves one inescapable truth, BCN will publish anyone's position on any reasonable topic, providing that it is reasonably well presented.

Personally, I strongly believe that Ronald Reagan was the best president of my lifetime, and second place is not even close. If not for Ronald Reagan, I probably would not have seen the proverbial light as soon as I did, and thereby not switched teams to play long and hard for the 'The Gipper'.

God rest RWR's good soul!
