    Raleigh, NC - The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments today:

    North Carolina Military Affairs Commission

  • Cindi Basenspiler (Mecklenburg County) - Basenspiler is the executive director for Charlotte Bridge Home, a non-profit agency that helps veterans successfully transition home after military service by identifying their education, employment and health care needs and connecting them to available community, state and federal resources. As a US Army Captain, Basenspiler is a trained CH-47D (Chinook) and XC3G UH-1 (Huey) helicopter pilot. She holds a B.A. from the University of South Alabama and an MBA from the University of Colorado. Basenspiler will serve as a public member. She will take General Cornell Wilson's seat, who was appointed by the governor to be his military affairs advisor.

    The commission provides advice, counsel and recommendations to the governor, General Assembly, secretary of commerce and other state agencies on programs and legislation impacting North Carolina's military installations. The term length is two years.

    Judicial Council

  • David Childs (Guilford County) - Childs is a consultant to businesses and individuals in the arena of wealth management and investments at the Oechsli Institute. He received a bachelor's degree in finance and economics from Bryan Business School at UNC-Greensboro. Childs will fill the seat of non-attorney appointed by the governor.

    The council advises the chief justice of the N.C. Supreme Court on priorities for funding, recommends guidelines for the assignment and management of cases, recommends changes in the boundaries of judicial districts and recommends performance standards for all judicial officials. The council has 18 members, who all serve four-year terms. Two members are appointed by the governor.

    North Carolina Environmental Management Commission

  • Dan Dawson (New Hanover County) - Dawson is the vice president of W.K. Dickson. He is a consulting engineer and land surveyor, specializing in municipal infrastructure and economic development projects. Dawson has served on many public trust boards and committees, such as the North Carolina Progress Board, the New Hanover Regional Medical Board of Trustees and the North Carolina Sedimentation and Erosion Control Commission. He received a B.S. in civil engineering from North Carolina State University. Dawson will hold the seat of a licensed engineer on the board.

    The board grants permits regarding controlling sources of air and water pollution; issues special orders to persons responsible for causing pollution; conducts investigations of any killing of fish or wildlife; consults with those who construct; install or acquire an air or water pollution source; and encourages local governments to handle air pollution problems. There are 19 members on the board, each serving a six-year term. The governor appoints 13 members.

    North Carolina Rural Electrification Authority

  • Kenneth Greene (Ashe County) - Greene is a sales associate for Northwestern Emergency Vehicles in West Jefferson. He is the president of Blue Ridge Electric and has been on the board since 1988. He attended Forsyth Technical Community College. Greene will hold an at-large position on the board.
  • John R. Kopp (Brunswick County) - Kopp is a small business owner. He served in the U.S. Army for three years. He is a board of directors member at Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation. Kopp will hold an at-large position on the board.
  • Donnie Spivey (Anson County) - Spivey is the CEO of Pee-Dee Electric Membership Corporation. He is the former president of the North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation. He received an M.S. in business administration from Wingate University. Spivey will hold an at-large position on the board.

    The authority's primary duty is to secure electrical and telephone services for the rural areas of the state. Each member is appointed by the governor. The term length is four years.
