Super TEA Party Rally on October 2, 2010 on the waterfront in Washington's Harbor District.
On Thursday, a group of 20-25 people met with Buzz Cayton of the Beaufort County Patriots in Washington to discuss the planning of a Tea Party rally along the waterfront in Washington on Oct. 2. The Beaufort Patriots is the Tea Party movement recently formed in that county by members of the Conservative Men's group. Cayton is President of that group. He is also an advocate for change in state government--for rooting out corruption and bringing in better leaders.
The Beaufort County Patriots hope to amass 3,000 to 5,000 people at the Tea Party rally by bringing in exciting, heavy-hitting speakers. They also hope it will receive national media attention, as well as start a swell in the grass-roots movement to elect more conservative candidates in this year's midterm election and in the presidential election of 2012. So far, Tea Party groups from Beaufort County, Pitt County, Wilson County, Zebulon, Rocky Mount, the Crystal Coast, Greene County and other areas have committed to help organize the rally.
The Tea Party groups are planning to bring in musical entertainment, food vendors, sales vendors, candidate booths. Church groups are encouraged to join the event with bake sales.
Pat McCrory, the 2008 Republican candidate for N.C. Governor, has already committed to speak at the rally, according to the Beaufort County Patriots, and others have shown interest. The Beaufort County Patriots are courting Bill Randall, the Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, running in the N.C.-13 Congressional District, and Jerry Grimes, the African American who was unable to win the GOP nomination to run for the N.C.-1 district seat in the general election, but is still known for his charismatic speaking.
They are also seeking speakers who have served in the military to highlight the patriotic roots of the Tea Party movement.
The Beaufort County Patriots hope to use the rally to 'turn-out-the-vote' in November. Their strategy will be to ask each person at the rally to pledge to make calls and motivate at least five people to vote for conservative candidates in November; and, also, to secure a pledge from those five people to each contact another five people, and so on.
Another theme of the rally will be to emphasize the significance of this year's election in Raleigh and the issue of re-districting (the party that wins will have the chance to draw up new district lines). The Beaufort County Patriots maintain that if re-districting favors the will of the Democrats and certain non-conservative Republicans, corruption and cronyism will continue within the state government, and grassroots efforts to change the federal government will be hampered. Their goal is to inspire people to elect a Republican state legislature to handle re-districting, rather than the current Democratic legislature.
The Beaufort County Patriots also intend to use the rally to encourage the electorate to sign up for courses on the United States Constitution, so they can be confidently informed at the polls. They believe this will help to oust President Barack Obama in 2012.
If anyone is interested in contacting Cayton with suggestions for entertainment, speakers, vendors, T-shirt sales or other items his e-mail address is: wcayton@earthlink.net. The group's Web site, www.beaufortpatriot.com, will provide updated details for the event.
The Washington Parks and Recreation Department has confirmed the reservation of the Washington waterfront for Oct. 2. Tents, venders and entertainment can start setting up as early as 10 a.m. and speakers will take the stage at about 2 p.m.
