On February 9, 2012, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Jermaine Adarryl Haywood, age 39, of 2637 Windmill Rd. Chocowinity and Columbus Blackwell Jr., age 63, of 90 Sams Rd. Chocowinity. Haywood and Blackwell’s arrest stemmed from Investigators conducting a traffic stop on Haywood’s vehicle on Mill Rd. in Chocowinity. K-9 Elza, the Sheriff’s Office drug detection K-9, alerted on Haywood’s vehicle for the odor of a narcotic. A search of the vehicle and its occupants revealed 28 grams of marijuana located in several plastic baggies packaged for resale, a set of digital scales, $700.00 in cash and 10 grams of crack-cocaine and powder cocaine mixture.
Jermaine Haywood and Columbus Blackwell Jr. were both arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Haywood was also charged with Maintaining a Vehicle to Facilitate Drug Activity. Haywood was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $4,000 secured bond. Blackwell was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $2,000 secured bond.
