On January 21, 2012, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received a report of Breaking and Entering of drink machines at the Piggly Wiggly on River Road in Washington, NC. Patrol Deputies responded and found one drink machine was broken into and money from inside was taken. The suspects also attempted to enter another drink machine at the store. Video footage was obtained from the outside camera surveillance system and the Sheriff's Office initiated an investigation.
On January 27, 2012, Patrol Sargent Michael Sheppard was patrolling the Washington area and observed the suspect vehicle from the store video footage traveling on Highway 264 East near Brickiln Road. Sgt. Sheppard initiated a traffic stop and identified the subjects inside. Sgt. Sheppard conducted interviews and a search of the vehicle. Sheppard seized approximately five dollars in loose coins, two crow bars, a hammer, and a tire iron from inside the vehicle. Sgt. Sheppard sent a Deputy to check the Piggly Wiggly drink machines while he spoke to the subjects in the vehicle. The Deputy discovered the same drink machine at the Piggly Wiggly had been broken into just prior to the vehicle stop.
Sgt. Sheppard applied for and obtained warrants charging David Lee Williams Jr., age 41, of South Pitt Street in Greenville, NC and Rexter Pierre Williams, age 42, of Dean Drive in Washington, NC with one count each of Felony Breaking or Entering Coin/Currency Machine and one count each of Injury to Personal Property. Both subjects were transported to the Magistrate's Office and brought before Magistrate D. Curtis where they received $7,500 secured bonds each. David Williams was also served with an outstanding Order for Arrest from Pitt County and received an additional $10,000 secured bond.
As a result of evidence gathered during the intial investigation, Investigator James Adams applied for and obtained additional warrants charging David and Rexter Williams with one count each of felony Breaking or Entering Coin/Currency Machine and one count each of Injury to Personal Property for the incident occurring on January 21, 2012. Both subjects received an additional $3,000 secured bond set by Magistrate D. Sadler.
