Paul Higgins nominated for the 2012 National History Teacher of the Year award

   Paul Huggins, a history teacher at Southside High School, has been nominated for the 2012 National History Teacher of the Year award. This award, a $10,000 prize, recognizes outstanding American history teachers from elementary through high school and is sponsored by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, Preserve American, and HISTORY®.

   Winners are chosen from each state, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools, and U.S. territories. State winners receive $1000 and an archive of American history books and resources for their school. State winners will be announced in May 2012.

   Huggins was nominated by a student, parent, colleague, or supervisor. To be eligible for the national award, he will submit a letter of support, resume, teaching philosophy, lesson plan, and student project.
