approximately 11:42 pm, Patrol Deputies and North Carolina State Troopers responded to the 300 block of Old Blounts Creek Road in Chocowinity, NC in reference to a vehicle accident and possible domestic assault. The driver was suspected of driving while impaired and detained at the scene. The driver became combative and attempted to damage the inside of the Trooper's vehicle. Deputies escorted the driver to a county patrol vehicle with a prisoner barricade where the driver began to spit on the Deputies. Deputies inventoried the wrecked vehicle and found Cocaine and other drug paraphernalia inside.
The driver was taken to the Beaufort County Medical Center where blood was drawn to determine if any impairing substances were in her system. After the procedure, Deputies were attempting to secure the driver in a patrol car to transport her to the Beaufort County Detention Center when she bit a Deputy on the left side of his face and continued to spit at the Deputies.
As a result of the driver's actions, warrants were obtained on Ashley Dawn Couch, age 25, of North Boyd Road in Castlewood, Virginia. Couch was charged with Felony Assault on a Government Official, Malicious Conduct by a Prisoner.
Possession of Schedule II, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. State Troopers also charged Couch with Driving While Impaired. Couch was taken before Magistrate Holmes where she was issued a $42,000.00 secured bond and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center.
