Press Release
As always Washington Police Department wants everyone to have a safe holiday season. In preparation for that we have increased patrols in both residential and business areas. We continue to encourage people to use safe practices during the season such as not traveling alone, a person makes less of a target if they have someone with them.
When shopping or at home don't leave valuables such as purses, ipods, laptops, GPS and other items in view which might tempt someone to steal them.
Always secure your vehicle no matter where you are and have your keys in hand when returning to your car. Stay in well lighted areas. If you feel uncomfortable somewhere, then don't park, go to another location that provides a feeling of security. Report anything you see that doesn't look right and allow law enforcement to investigate. If
you are going to be away from home try to employ the use of motion or timed lighting to give the illusion of someone being home.
If you are going out of town have mail and papers stopped or picked up by a relative and possibly even have the local law enforcement perform a house check if you will be gone for several days.
Completing a home inventory is always helpful. With today's technology you can use a digital camera to record what property you have. Take photos of each room from different As always we can't do it without your help in making the community a safer place.
