Scholarship Recipients Announced | Eastern North Carolina Now

    The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following recipients of scholarships through the BCCC Foundation for the spring 2017 semester.

Joshua Bolafka
    Joshua Bolafka of Washington has received the Larry Lancaster Endowment Scholarship. Bolafka, 27, attended Washington High School and plans to work in welding. He currently works for the City of Washington as a maintenance welder's assistant.

Pamela Bowen
    Pamela Bowen of Ayden has received the Linda L. Penrod Scholarship. Bowen, 45, attended Ayden-Grifton High School and is working toward an Associate Degree in Nursing. Daughter of Thomas and Margaret Bowen of Ayden and mother of two, she plans to work in long-term care. Bowen works as an LPN with MacGregor Downs & Rehab. She received her LPN degree from BCCC.

Joe Brewer
    Joe Brewer of Washington has received the David Clark Endowment Scholarship. Brewer, 20, is an automotive technology systems student. He attended Washington High School and is the son of Evelyn Brewer of Washington. He plans to become an automotive technician and currently works as a courtesy associate at Walmart.

Amy Greene
    Amy Greene of Greenville has received the Myrtle Cutler Jones Scholarship. Greene, 41, is a nursing student and attended J. H. Rose High School. Wife of James Blake and mother of two, she plans to work in dialysis. Greene currently works at Pamlico Dialysis as a secretary and Howell's as a LPN. Greene holds a medical office administration degree, LPN degree, and an Associate of General Education.

Zach Holton
    Zackary Holton of New Bern has received the Larry T. Moore Scholarship. Holton, 21, is the son of Chuck and Joanna Holton of New Bern. He attended Pamlico County High School and is a mechanical engineering student.

Christopher Leaver
    Christopher Leaver of Washington has received the David Clark Endowment Scholarship. Leaver, 25, attended Southside High School and is a student in the mechanical engineering technology program. Son of Bonnie and Russell Leaver of Chocowinity, husband of Alexis Fraley-Leaver, and father of one, he plans to transfer to East Carolina University to further his studies. Leaver works as a machine operator at Oak Ridge Metal Works.

Breanna Leggett
    Breanna Leggett of Washington has received the Harold & Louise Lane Endowment Scholarship and the Bill Pruitt/St. Thomas Episcopal Church Scholarship. Leggett, 19, attended Northside High School and is a nursing student. Daughter of Steve and Roxanna Leggett of Washington, she plans to transfer to East Carolina University to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She currently works as a cashier at Tayloe's Hospital Pharmacy.

Alex McLawhorn
    Alex McLawhorn of Chocowinity has received the David C. Lee, Jr. Scholarship. McLawhorn, 28, attended Southside High School and is an automotive technology student. He is the son of Ronnie McLawhorn of Vanceboro and Kelly Welch of Chocowinity. He plans to eventually start his own auto shop.

Chase Sterrenberg
    Chase Sterrenberg of Washington has received the David Clark Endowment Scholarship. Sterrenberg, 30, attended Northside High School and is an electrical engineering student. He plans to get a job that will allow him to obtain an electrical license. Son of Lynn Galloway and Peter Sterrenberg of Washington, husband of Myra Sterrenberg, and father of one, Sterrenberg is currently employed as an electrician at Griffin Electric Down East.

Ashley Woolard
    Ashley Woolard of Chocowinity has received the Jim Chesnutt BCCC Foundation Scholarship. Woolard, 18, attended Unity Christian Academy and is working toward an Associate of Arts. Daughter of Ashley and Wendy Woolard of Chocowinity, she plans to continue her education at East Carolina University with the goal of earning a business finance degree. She currently works as a sales associate at The Blue Crab Monogram & Gifts.
