The Beaufort County Commissioners held their regular monthly meeting Monday (10-30-11). The video clips below present the highlights of the meeting.
The first clip contains the agenda and opening of the meeting. During the public comment section of the agenda representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) made a presentation, focusing on temporary housing. The board heard that at this point 32 temporary housing units have been approved for Beaufort County. That presentation is contained in the first clip:
The board discussed and decided to support the appointment of a committee to draw up plans for the tricentennial celebration of Beaufort County.
Mr. Bobby Parker, Tax Administrator, made a presentation on tax collections. There was an extensive discussion of the reporting process but what may be of interest to more people is a brief discussion about the impact of storm damage on property values. You'll hear Mr. Parker's response in the clip below:
The Board also heard a report from the Water Department on grants that are being applied for to tie together the water district (6) south of the river with that north of the river to insure an adequate supply north of the river which is now reaching maximum capacity.
They also approved low bids for grinding and disposal of vegetative debris as well as bids for disposal of construction and demolition debris. Assistant Manager Jim Chrisman indicated the contractors would begin work next week. It was announced that residents needing debris service can call 946 2046 if there are emergency situations that need immediate attention. He indicated debris should be placed on the road right-of-way but not on the pavement itself. It was announced that there has been no deadline for picking up the debris but they will continue to work at it until the task is complete.
Check back later for more on the meeting, including appointments and a discussion about the jail.
