House Speaker indicates they are going to restore the Teaching Fellows program
The News & Observer is reporting that House Speaker Thom Tillis has said that cutting the N. C. Teaching Fellows program was a mistake. Moreover, it is reported that he has said he has asked his staff to find a way to keep the program going.
We think that is a good thing. We said back in June that we did not believe cutting this program was a wise thing for the state to do. While we don't know if that had anything to do with the Speaker's change of heart, we do commend him for being willing to take another look at it and for the conclusion he has apparently come to.

Now that the leadership has corrected the error on the Teaching Fellows they should now turn their attention to re-funding the dual enrollment programs which were also cut in the last budget. Our arguments in the link above still remain true. The dual enrollment programs are one of the best innovations in many years and they save not only the state but parents a great deal of money. They too should be restored and promoted.
But congratulations Mr. Speaker for having the character to admit that the budget cutters made a mistake.
