Governor McCrory's Veterans Employment Initiative Hits The Ground At Camp Lejeune | Eastern North Carolina Now

 Raleigh, N.C. — A job fair at Camp Lejeune attracted more than 65 military service members interested in the information technology sector, specifically in state government. The event was led by the North Carolina Department of Information Technology, in partnership with Cisco, as part of Governor Pat McCrory's Veterans Employment Initiative, a public-private partnership launched in early 2015 to help veterans find employment in North Carolina.

 "I am committed to supporting our veterans and making sure we can connect their skills and talent to jobs right here in North Carolina," said Governor McCrory. "Given their background and training, veterans bring invaluable experience that we need in state government, particularly in the Department of Information Technology where we continue to focus on using technology to better serve the citizens of North Carolina."

 Several employees of the department who are military veterans spoke with service members at the job fair about their personal experience in state government, and described the similarity to their military experience; a rewarding profession with a clear mission and a commitment to public service.

 "Today's job fair was a huge success in furthering Governor McCrory's efforts to make North Carolina the most military and veteran-friendly state in the nation," said State CIO Keith Werner. "I was humbled to be in the presence of, and have personal conversations with, just a few of the brave men and women who serve our country. These conversations only confirmed my belief that their talents gained through military experience will be invaluable to our department."

 The job fair at Camp Lejeune is one of two to be held this month. The second will occur at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville on February 19 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

 Military service members interested in working with the Department of Information Technology after they separate from their branch of service should consult with their Transition Readiness Office or the department's Human Resources Office.
