Press Release:

SECU announces People Helping People scholarship recipients

WASHINGTON, N.C. — Beaufort County Community College and the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Foundation have announced the recipients of the People Helping People Scholarship. Misty Steward and Emily Alligood were selected for the award, which provides $5,000 over four semesters to help pay for tuition, books, fees, course supplies and transportation.

Both recipients are first-year students at BCCC. Steward is enrolled in the Business Administration program, and Alligood is pursuing an Associate in Science degree.

The SECU Foundation scholarships are funded solely by SECU members, whose $1 monthly checking account maintenance fee is routed to the SECU Foundation. The scholarship selection committee considers students who exemplify the philosophy of "People Helping People" by demonstrating leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement.

Each year the SECU Foundation offers two scholarships at each of North Carolina's 58 community colleges, for a total of 116 scholarships.

For more information, contact BCCC Financial Aid Director Jo Woolard at 252-940-6219.
