Is it an addiction? If so, does it require an intervention? | Eastern North Carolina Now

Bobby Tony proves that multitasking is possible when dealing with the Reverend.

Well here is my story and I am sticking to it. I woke up this morning at the usual time and had a pain in my back. I immediately recognized it as the precursor of a kidney stone as I have had considerable experience with that malady before. After waiting a few minutes for the pain to subside or increase, I pulled up BCN to review the morning musings and flame comments.

As the pain grew worse, I decided that it the best option was to check in the hospital emergency room in case the pain increased to a lever that became unbearable. If you have ever had a kidney stone you know what I am talking about.

Fortunately, they just finished a hospital within one-quarter mile from the old folk's (some call it a retirement community, but I have been to the clubhouse and I know better) home where I live. I was also fortunate that my brother Jim was down from Chattanooga for a visit. I had him drop me off at the emergency room. The new hospital is state of the art and no one was in the emergency room so they took me right back and checked me in. (6:00AM)

After an initial exam, they decided to do a CT scan to determine if I had a stone and what the size it was.

As I lay there waiting for them to take me to the scan room I thought I would check BCN to see if the fight had started yet. It had and I had nothing else to do so I joined in the debate. I will admit that typing on an IPhone 4 is difficult but it was more difficult from the prone position with an oxygen probe on my right index finger.

As TMac has pointed out, I sometimes have multiple posts floating on BCN in a single day, so it was necessary for me to check each post and naturally, the comments had started with all manner of BS. In order to defend my honor I felt obliged to respond using the IPhone as my input device.

To keep a long story even longer, the pain subsided and I did not require any pain medication. While still operating on a clear mind, I felt I should throw some oxygen into the fire and see if I can get it to critical mass.

They finally arrived to take me to the CT scan. That only took 10 minutes and then they returned me to the emergency room (#1) to await the results. Since I am a dedicated contributor to BCN, I continued the debate.

In between all this commenting, I had to make and receive several text messages from my wife and kids to advise them there was no emergency.

Then the coup-de-grace: My IPhone battery reached the dreaded red 10% level.

At long last, the MD came in and advised that I did indeed have a kidney stone and they would give me an RX for pain if needed and told me to force liquids (cranberry juice) to try and move it along.

I checked out of the hospital (11:45 AM) and went to CVS to get the prescriptions filled. They advised it would be an hour wait.

Therefore, I came home to wait.

While my IPhone is charging and I am waiting for the prescriptions to be ready, I fired up the laptop and review the morning BCN comments. Below is my half of the comments all made from the comfort of a hospital bed:

Now since I have been told that the Socratic Method is the best way to solve a problem without actually solving the problem I have the following questions:

Should I get one of those battery extender packs for the IPhone in case this happens again?

Should I upgrade my IPhone so I can dictate my comments to BCN without having to use the small keyboard?

Should I cut back my post on BCN to one a week to relieve the load on commenting and debating on all the finer points of angles dancing on the head of a a pin.?

If I stop commenting or set my post on BCN to block comments will I be missed?

If I stop commenting on posts, will Stan and Ted be able to withstand the ad homonym attacks from the Rev Gene?

And the final and most important question is:

AM I ADDICTED TO BCN AND DOES IT REQUIRE AN INTERVENTION??????
