Just yesterday, I hypothesized that we have roughly 20% of our potential workforce unemployed. Of that 20%: 10% legitimately cannot find a decent job, and the other 10% will not work.

Factor in the fact that we have a growing segment of the population on a "fixed income," and one can easily realize that our approach to taking care of the pathetic humankind that continue to breathe our surplus air is not sustainable.

Sounds mean spirited?

Well, it is the world that we leave our children if we do not act.

We cannot continue to provide for those who have earned that "fixed income" if we continue to provide for those who haven't.

It is that simple.

I have no problem helping those who really and truely need help but why should I on a fixed income be asked to help those who can help themselves. I know that not all of the students in Beaufort county need help with school supplies. I believe that this is an effort by teachers for teachers so they can have more than what they really need to "create an atmosphere" for their students.
