Tansey Topics: A Weekly Look At What's Happening At BCCC | Eastern North Carolina Now

A record 285 students earned certificates, diplomas and degrees from Beaufort County Community College last week during graduation exercises held at Washington High School. N.C. Secretary of Commerce John Skvarla III gave the commencement address and cited the dedication, effort and perseverance of the graduates. "The price you had to pay to get here is a remarkable achievement and you are to be lauded," he said. "Your future is as big as your mind's eye can envision it. You just have to envision where you want to be and where you want to go." He cited two graduates — Joey Mayo and BCCC's own Debra Clemmons — as examples of that dedication, effort and perseverance. You can read their stories in the Graduation Edition of Campus Connections which will be emailed to you next week. Congratulations to all of our graduates. I look forward to great things to come each of them.

College and Career Readiness programs at BCCC will include Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency and English as a Second Language.

Office and Classroom Moves

  • Several office and classroom moves are under way on our campus this summer. The Academic Support Center and Writing Center will be combined into a one-stop Learning Enhancement Center for students. Relocated to Building 3, the center will be coordinated by James Casey. The current Writing Center office will be converted into an office for adjunct faculty. The BCCC Foundation staff is moving to Room 113 in Building 1. This will enable more privacy for confidential conversations and interviews to be held in the Board Room in Building 10. Health and Safety Coordinator Howell Miller and Assistant Systems Administrator Brandon Bunch will move to other offices in Building 1. Developmental Reading and English Instructor Liz Shinohara will serve this summer as a faculty advisor in the Career Center in Building 9.
