    Beaufort County Community College is a finalist in STANLEY Security's Together for Safer Schools grant program. BCCC could win up to $100,000 in STANLEY Security installed products and services to help secure students and facilities within the campus environment if it receives enough votes of support. Voting is open through 11:59 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 and students, faculty, administrators, parents, alumni and members of the community can vote for BCCC daily via the voting website at http://www.stanleysaferschools.com, text message or Twitter. Individuals should vote every day. There are three ways to vote. The directions are as follows:

  1. Visit http://www.stanleysaferschools.com, click on the "Vote Now" tab and type in Beaufort County Community College under "Type in your School Name here."
  2. Text bcccedu to 334455
  3. Tweet using Hashtags #STANLEYSecurity and #bcccedu.

    Should BCCC win, the grant can be used for any Stanley Security products, technologies, solutions, services and installation. This can include video surveillance, electronic access control, intrusion detection, fire detection, software solutions and support, panic buttons, key storage solutions, and many more items. Help BCCC win this grant! Be sure to vote every day!

    Here's a look at BCCC events happening on campus and in the community:

BCCC Foundation

  • Applications are being sought for students to represent Beaufort County Community College as Ambassadors for the 2015-2016 Academic Year. The deadline for Ambassador nominations is Friday, February 13, 2015. Nominees must have a 3.0 grade point average and must not have a felony conviction. Ambassadors must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher each semester they serve as Ambassadors; demonstrate a high level of commitment to the college through active participation in at least 75 percent of Ambassador activities; maintain a pleasant and outgoing personality in all Ambassador related activities; be able and willing to represent the college in a positive manner on and off campus at all times, among other requirements.   • Planning is under way for a Foundation trip to the Durham Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 14, to see Kinky Boots and on Saturday, June 6, to see Newsies. If you are interested in receiving more information about these trips as they are developed, contact Interim Foundation Director Marcia Norwood at 252-940-6218 and, after Friday, January 30, Foundation Director Serena Sullivan at 252940-6326.

Black History Month Quiz Bowl

  • Plan to attend or participate in the Black History Month Quiz Bowl Competition. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, Students Striving for Success through Leadership and TRiO/Student Support Services, the Black History Month Quiz Bowl Competition will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, and Thursday, Feb. 26, in the auditorium of Building 8. Eight four-member teams from campus clubs or academic programs are being sought to participate in the event which will feature questions about important events in the history of African-Americans. The event will include two rounds of competition with eight teams included in the first round on Tuesday. The competition will be narrowed to four teams who will compete in the final round on Thursday. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams which can be used to fund club or program events. First Prize will be $150; second prize, $100, and third prize, $50.   • There's still time for students to apply for graduation. If you think you may be ready to graduate, check with your academic advisor about your eligibility. Next, stop by the Registrar's Office and apply. If you are receiving financial aid, visit the Financial Aid Office for exit counseling. If you are eligible to graduate, please visit the Business Office on the second floor of Building 1 to pay the graduation fee of $35.

Gullfest

  • Information forms are available in the lobby of Building 1 about the upcoming Miss Gullfest Pageant to be held Saturday, April 18, in conjunction with BCCC's spring festival. Pageant Chairman Sara Singleton reports that interest in the event is high. It will include competition in five divisions — Preschool through second grade for Tiny Miss Gullfest; third through fifth grades for Little Miss Gullfest; sixth through eighth grades for Teen Miss Gullfest; ninth through 12th grades for Miss Gullfest and College Miss Gullfest for current BCCC students. A maximum of 15 contestants will be accepted per division. The registration deadline is March 20. IM FITT Grand Opening

  • Don't forget to bring your walking shoes to the campus on Tuesday, January 27, for the Grand Opening of the Interactive Multipurpose Fitness and Interval Training Trail, or IM FITT, at 11 a.m. outside of Building 8. The free community resource offers a full-body workout including a one mile walking loop and three exercise stations for flexibility, aerobic and strength training. Wear your walking shoes and take part in the inaugural IM FITT Walk along with fellow BCCC faculty, staff, students and campus visitors.

Vote for Washington

  • Washington has made the finals of Budget Travels' America's Coolest Small Towns 2015. Voting in the magazine's contest is open until 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, February 25. to vote, visit www.budgettravel.com and click on the VOTE icon at the top of the page. You will be directed to a map of the United States where you can click on the arrow showing the location of Washington. From there, you can vote. Be sure to vote every day!

WASHINGTON, NC— Beaufort County Community College has eight-week, online "Late-Start" courses starting March 6.
A new scholarship will help more North Carolina families attend university and offer them debt-free community college.

WASHINGTON, NC— The Beaufort County Community College Foundation received a $40,000 donation from the First Annual Belhaven Trout Tournament and Festival.
