NBC Reconstructs the Pledge of Allegiance

During the opening of its coverage of the US Open this past weekend, NBC used the opportunity to make a political statement. It decided to edit the Pledge of Allegiance, taking out the phrase "Under God" (and also the word "indivisible").

Well, that was as offensive as it gets and it cut me to the core as an American citizen who loves this country and loves our rich history and heritage. It may be offensive to NBC that our country was founded on a religious heritage and that our very institutions and even our very liberties are based on an acknowledgement of God, but it isn't offensive to me or to over 80% of Americans. If anyone dare finds it offensive - as they sit under the blanket of freedom that this country offers and robustly enjoy every liberty protected under our Constitution while trying to take some away from others - then I suggest that there are countless other countries to live. As organizations like NBC insensitively, irresponsibly, immorally, and unethically abuse the discretion that is associated with a fee nation embracing the freedom of speech, expression, and press, I hope it suffers the repercussions of its abuse.

While NBC will no doubt find other ways to show its contempt for this country, I will spend my days showing my love and appreciation for her and for all the blessings that living here has provided me and my family. I will write letters to my local paper and to the many online journals and organizations that I contribute to.

In the free marketplace of ideas and expression that we have here in this one nation Under God, please help me send a message to NBC by finding other stations to watch. And as always, God Bless the United States.
