Tansey Topics: A Weekly Look at What's Happening at BCCC | Eastern North Carolina Now

The Beaufort County Community College Board of Trustees has expanded its tobacco-free policy to include electronic cigarettes and other electronic delivery systems in its campus-wide tobacco ban. The prohibition on electronic cigarettes and similar devices is effective immediately and applies not only to BCCC students and employees but also visitors to the campus. Beaufort County Community College is committed to providing its employees and students with a safe and healthful environment. The new policy, added to the existing smoking and tobacco free campus policy recognizes the use of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes on campus grounds is detrimental to the health and safety of students.

Here's a look at other BCCC events happening on campus and in the community:

    • Following the recent ruling by a federal court, overturning North Carolina's law regarding same gender marriage, same-sex spouses of State Health Plan members are now eligible for State Health Plan coverage. The ruling is considered a qualifying life event and eligible spouses will have 30 days to add their spouse. Beyond this initial 30 days, marriage is a qualifying life event and members will have 30 days to add a spouse to their health plan coverage. For more information about this change in eligibility, contact Emily Woolard or Morgan Roberson Bland in our Human Resources office.
