     Tuesday, August 5, 2014       Palmetto Boardwalk Hike       2:00 pm

    Come take a look at the hardwood swamp that is slowly transitioning to a marsh and see what kind of animals call this spot home. Meet at the visitor center.

      Tuesday, August 11, 2014       A Hike Through History       10:00 am

    Enjoy a beautiful morning hiking along the Pamlico River. We will make multiple stops throughout the one-mile hike to share North Carolina history. Topics will include Indian heritage, early settlers, Blackbeard the Pirate and the naval store industries. Meet the ranger at the 3rd parking lot.

     Tuesday, August 12, 2014       Fire and Longleaf Pines       10:00 am

    Watch a short video explaining the relationship between longleaf pines and prescription burning and get a close up view of some of the tools that we use to plan and execute a burn.

      Saturday, August 16, 2014       Snakes       2:00 pm

    Meet at the park visitor center to get up close with some live snakes. Learn more about the snakes and the species that are in Eastern North Carolina. Even get to meet an exotic species during this special presentation! All ages are welcomed.

      Sunday, August 17, 2014       Phases of the Moon and Our Solar System       2:00 pm

    Meet at the park visitor center to learn about the phases of the Moon and the mysteries of our solar system. Participate in a Moon Jump to see how high you would jump on the Moon! Also, weigh yourself to see how much you would weigh on the Moon! All ages welcomed.

      Thursday, August 28, 2014       Crabbing for Some Blues       10:00 am

    Visit Goose Creek State Park and expand your knowledge on the community’s famous Blue Crab. We will discuss habits of this critter and more excitingly, how to catch them. We will not cook or eat any crabs during the program, but please feel free to share your favorit crab recipe. Call the park office to sign up.

The Rivers East Workforce Development Board has been awarded a National Dislocated Worker Grant (NDWTG) in the amount of $275,000 to assist the employees of the QVC Rocky Mount Distribution Center that reside in the Rivers East region.
